The Domestic Season concluded with Baxter, Mt Eliza, Hastings and Pines fighting out the Northern District competition, Rosebud, Rye, Flinders and Red Hill doing battle for the Southern title and Navy, Mornington Diggers, Pearcedale and French Island were competing for the Sub-District title.
In the Northern District Grade, Baxter easily accounted for Pines with Fred Wolmersley in magnificent touch in an innings of 162 and George Schmidt completing the contract with 6/30. The other Semi-Final was closer but Hastings took the game in comfort - Jeff Slugger Slocombe took 6/41 to crush the hopes of the Mounties.
Baxter 331 (Wolmersley 162, Peacock 61, W.Woolard 5/66) defeated Pines 91 (Schmidt 6/30) & 68 Hastings 241 (Thornell 57) defeated Mt Eliza 195 (Wallens 65, Slocombe 6/41) & 1/68
Southern - District 1sts Rosebud 97 & 3/73 defeated Red Hill 84 & 6/84 Rye 260 (G.Cain 67) defeated Flinders 86 & 149
In the Sub-District Grade, Navy turned the tables on French Island with Bonnett again in a starring role and Mornington Diggers reached the Grand Final with a big win over Pearcedale.
Navy (1) 205 (Bonnett 102, Keay 63) & 6/107 (Bonnett 58no) defeated French Island 119 Mornington Diggers 231 (K.Cook 67) & 2/36 defeated Pearcedale 165 (Cockhead 68, Evison 5/30) & 99

The Grand Finals were all hard-fought affairs with the team which finished on top of the ladder in each Grade taking out each Premiership - Baxter, Rosebud and Navy. Baxter promoted veteran batsman Bob Hooper to the 1st team for the Finals - he’d been playing in the 2nds all Season - and Bob produced some magic to score 113 in Baxter’s 294. Hastings managed 208 with Slugger Slocombe and Jack Allen among the runs, but they could not contain the Baxter batsmen who savaged all bowlers - although Geoff Moffatt managed 5/64 - to the tune of 341 with Fred Wolmersley and Jack Peacock scoring heavily. Hastings were well short of the total when time ran out, and again Slugger Slocombe showed that he would be a power in the competition for years to come with another good batting effort.
Baxter 294 (Hooper 113) & 341 (Wolmersley 78, Peacock 69, Moffatt 5/64) defeated Hastings 208 (Slocombe 66, J.Allen 70) & 8/201 (Slocombe 73)

Navy (1) 198 (Bonnett 104, Pollard 6/39) & 204 defeated Mornington Diggers 166 (K.Cook 61) & 106 (Bonnett 6/52)
In other Grand Finals, Seaford easily defeated Pines (L.Ainsley 56), and Sorrento with Ross Lever (5/41), Paul Crookes (5/11) and Robert Stringer (79) to the fore had an “exercise gallop” against Morning Star to take out the Southern District 2nds competition.
COUNTRY WEEKThe 1966 campaign was a shocker with the MPCA team losing all four games. The team started the week scoring 3/233 (Bill Martin 104 not out & Wally Wedgwood 55 not out) against Euroa only to have the opposition score 5/310. We scored 129 (Steve Arnott 70) against Rochester (7/184 - Keith Edwards 5/24), and 94 against Horsham (8/142 & 1/36). The biggest chance to win came in the last game when the MPCA scored 185 (Bill Martin 90) against Benalla, but unfortunately the boys from the Kelly country got home by 3 runs with 1 wicket in hand - George Schmidt 5/79.
For the Season a number of 1st XI players did exceptionally well - V.Bonnett of the Navy scored 4 centuries and once took 8 wickets in an Innings while Bob Thompson (French Island) and Jack Peacock (Baxter) each scored 3 centuries.
